Beautiful ~ Functional ~ Sustainable
Welcome to Black Mountain Woodcraft, your source for unique hand-crafted furniture and home decor. A woodworker for more than 40 years, artisan and owner Bruce Grob relocated to the mountains of Western North Carolina in 2012. Here he sources recycled and reclaimed woods, and partners with you to co-create the custom piece that best reflects your needs and personal style.
What inspires him? The small town of Black Mountain, just east of Asheville, exemplifies what folk singer Dar Williams calls “positive proximity,” that vital spirit of community that draws together people and families from all walks of life – entrepreneurs, teachers, farmers, retirees, artists, tradespeople, activists, healers. Surrounded by this lively, welcoming community, Bruce finds inspiration in the deep woods outside his workshop windows, in expansive mountain vistas, starlit skies, old tobacco barns and in the work of fellow artisans.
Bruce appreciates the history and complexity of reclaimed and recycled wood. “The wood has a story to tell,” he says. “But the real beauty of the grain doesn’t show up right away. It takes patience and persistence to draw out what’s hiding beneath the surface.”
“A piece of custom furniture can pass down over several generations,” Bruce says. “It has a place in your home, with your family, and if you’ve helped design the piece, then you’re part of that legacy, too.”
While his workshop is located in Black Mountain, NC, Bruce can arrange for delivery of his signature pieces to your home or office anywhere in the continental United States. You can see samples of his work at Seven Sisters Gallery in Black Mountain, or visit the Contact Page to arrange for a consultation or a visit to the workshop.
